Nglambor Beach,A Beautiful Beach in Yogyakarta

Nglambor beach is located in the village of Tanjung Sari, district of Tepus ini Gunung Kidul. The beach location is about 70km to east from downtown Yogyakarta and can be reached by road in approximately two hours from Yogyakarta,depends on traffic.


To reach Nglambor Beach, you are recommended to rent a car with a driver from the travel agency or car rental company because the location is quite far, and the road is narrow, winding, and it involves going uphill and downhill. The cost to rent a car including driver and fuel is about 600,000 IDR (approximately 41.00 USD) for 12 hours. But it is okay to ride motorcycle if you love to ride because there is unforgettable sensation. If you want to save your money,you can use public transportation. There is no direct public transport over there. You can use Trans Jogja to Giwangan bus station (Terminal bis Giwangan), ticket about 4000 IDR. Then, change bus from Giwangan bus station to Wonosari city bus station, and then change bus to Jepitu. You have to stop at “pertigaan pantai Siung”. Then, you have to use Taxi motor to the beach. Nglambor beach is located around other beautiful and famous beaches. Such as, JOGAN BEACH, SIUNG BEACH and TIMANG BEACH. But Nglambor beach is not like the other beach,it has it charm.

For the first time you get there,you can not see the beach directly because it is covered by coral hills. If you want to see the beach,you can rent Taxi motor to reach the beach with 5000 IDR cost or you can just walk there,it is about 500 meters to reach the beach from car parking area,but the road to the beach so rocky and slieperly in the rainy season. It depends on you,wether you want to save your money or save your energy. After reach there you can see the ocean but not the beach. To see the beach you have to climb down a little more to get to the beach. Then,you can see the beach with the short shoreline. The entry ticket are very cheap.Detail ticket price:

Parking Retribution = 5.000 IDR for car and 2.000-3.000 IDR for motorcycle.

First impression you will get is the beach is quite small but it has a great view. You can see that Nglambor Beach has two coral reefs shaped like giant turtles called “watu kuntul” and “watu kalong” in Javanese. When translated, it means egret and bat stones respectively. Both of these giant reefs make the big waves that hit the northers beach more calm and protect coral reefs underwater. That is why Nglambor is pointed out as a conservation area for coral reefs and fishes. Amazing underwater views show various coral reefs with beautiful little fishes swimming around them.

If you worry about the facility,you do not have to because the facilities are good. There is a lot of toilet,bathroom,changing room,food stalls or cafe,mosque,and even a charging phone section. Do not be surprised if there are weak signal for your cell phone because of the location that far away from the city. Then if you asking about the safety,do not worry about it. There are local people there so if you are in trouble just ask for their help. But if you want to go to the beach or even the water,you should ask about the water tide time. If the tide is strong enough,you can not go to the beach,it is dangerous because the shoreline is small enough. 

Because of the nice atmosphere on the beach,you probably want to stay the night around the beach. There are some inn option. Hotels like Griya Limasan Gunung Kidul, Bamboo Lengkung Indrayanti,Rock Garden Homestay are the recommendation for you. The price is not too expensive,it is around 300.000 – 600.000 IDR for a night. But if you want to save your money,you can do camping around the beach. You just got charge for about 5000 IDR.

You can do many interesting activities in Nglambor beach. Talk about beach,of course you can swim. Because the tide is kind of friendly,you can swim easily without worrying about a big wave. Swimming is a fun activity,but make sure that you do not miss the most popular thing to do in Nglambor beach. It is Snorkeling activity that will blow your mind. This beach began to rise and is famous among local tourists because it has a uniqueness and distinctiveness that is not owned by other Yogyakarta coast. On this beach, visitors can swim and snorkel to see the beauty of marine life. You do not need to swim away to enjoy the beauty of marine life,just about 10 meters from the shoreline you can find a lot of small colorful fishes there. And you can see the beauty of the colors of coral and marine fish in it. This is a great experience,isn’t it?

Another activity you can do is camping. With camping,you can feel the pure nature. In the night,the wave sound will make you relax and this sound can release your stress. This is the best way to escape from the busy world. When you do camping,you can find an unforgettable experience. You can make a campfire,burn some corns there,and make a warm talk with others. What a wonderful night will be. For your information,the weather is not cold at the night so do not worry about being chilled. If you hungry you can buy foods in the café around the beach. Mostly they open 24 hours a day. They provide beverages,like coffe,tea,and other. And of course they provide fish and other seafood.

With a lot of activity that we can do on Nglambor beach,there are two activities that I highly recommended. First is Camping. As I mention before,you can feel the real nature,the pure nature. Camping is a best way to enjoy the nature. The best part of camping is you can see the milkyway! Imagine the stars in the sky is so beautiful. If you are lucky,you will see the shooting stars. It may be an unforgettable moment when you do camping. You can not find it in another place outside nature.

Second activity is Snorkeling. With a wonderful underwater creatures,of course Ngalmor beach is a right place for you to do snorkeling. Even the beach is quite small,but the experience you get when you do snorkeling is unbelieveable. You can do snorkeling at Nglambor Beach with an affordable price of 40.000 – 50.000 IDR which includes :

• The snorkeling equipment,
• Life jacket
• Guide
• Underwater photo

The session will last for one hour and you can bring home 5 underwater pictures for each person. This package provides by BNS and Nglambor Lestari,just choose between them. Or if you want a longer session,you can just rent snorkeling equipment from local people,it is cost about 25.000 IDR,cheaper.

Last thing,if we say about holiday,do not forget about taking picture. There is a lot of place to take picture. You can hike the hill in the right side to get a good result with beach scenery below. If you want another option,you can take a picture from another hill on the left.

So,Nglambor is one of the most beautiful beach in Yogyakarta. It is quite far but offers you a great view and experience. You can do some activities like camping and snorkeling. Nglambor beach may not big and large in size but it is big and large in Beauty.
